  8.      DOS CONFIGURATION
  9.      
  10.           For   proper  operation  of  all  functions,  the  OWL  Personal 
  11.           Portfolio  Manager  requires that the number of DOS file handles 
  12.           be  set  to  20  or  more.   The  number  of DOS file handles is 
  13.           established  when  you  boot  your  computer  and  is derived as 
  14.           either  a  default  value or from the standard file "CONFIG.SYS" 
  15.           which  must  reside  in the root directory of your start-up disk 
  16.           drive.    For   proper   operation,   you  MUST  HAVE  the  file 
  17.           "CONFIG.SYS"  in the root directory of your start-up disk and it 
  18.           MUST   contain   the   line  "FILES=20"  (values  above  20  are 
  19.           acceptable).   Assuming  your  start-up disk is the C drive, you 
  20.           can create this file very quickly by typing the following:
  21.           
  22.                 COPY CON: C:\CONFIG.SYS
  23.                 FILES=20
  24.                 Ctrl-Z      (Press "Ctrl" and "Z" keys together)
  25.           
  26.           Once  you  have  added or edited the "CONFIG.SYS" file, you must 
  27.           re-boot  your  computer for the changes to take effect.  Consult 
  28.           your DOS manual for additional information.

  31.      HARD DISK INSTALLATION
  32.      
  33.           Place  the  distribution  diskette  in  drive  A  and  type  the 
  34.           following commands:
  35.           
  36.                 A:
  37.                 INSTALL C
  38.           
  39.           The  program  and data files will be installed on the C:\OPPM41.  
  40.           If  you prefer to install the program on a hard drive other than 
  41.           C:,  substitute  the  appropriate  drive  letter  for  C  in the 
  42.           install command.  To run OPPM type the following commands:
  43.           
  44.                 C:
  45.                 CD \OPPM41
  46.                 OPPM
  47.           
  48.      
  49.      360k FLOPPY DISK INSTALLATION
  50.      
  51.           Format  3  new  diskettes  using  the DOS format command.  Label 
  52.           these  disks  OPPM  PROGRAM  1,  OPPM  PROGRAM  2 and OPPM DATA.  
  53.           Place  the  distribution  diskette  in  drive  A  and  the blank 
  54.           formatted  disk  labeled  OPPM  PROGRAM  1 in drive B.  Type the 
  55.           following commands:
  56.           
  57.                 A:
  58.                 INSTALL B 3
  59.           
  60.           You  will be prompted to insert the OPPM PROGRAM 2 and OPPM DATA 
  61.           disks  when  required.   To  run  OPPM, place the OPPM PROGRAM 1 
  62.           disk  in  drive  A  and  the OPPM DATA disk in drive B. Type the 
  63.           following commands:

  66.                 OPPM

  68.           After  initialization, the program will warn that data files are 
  69.           missing  from  the  current  drive  and  directory.   Select the 
  70.           option  to  "Change  Data  Drive\Directory  and  enter "B:" when 
  71.           prompted for the new drive and directory.

  74.      720k+ FLOPPY DISK INSTALLATION
  75.      
  76.           Format  2  new  diskettes  using  the DOS format command.  Label 
  77.           these  disks OPPM PROGRAM and OPPM DATA.  Place the distribution 
  78.           diskette  in  drive  A and the blank formatted disk labeled OPPM 
  79.           PROGRAM in drive B.  Type the following commands:

  82.                 INSTALL B 2
  83.           
  84.           You  will  be  prompted  to  insert  the  OPPM  DATA  disk  when 
  85.           required.   To  run OPPM, place the OPPM PROGRAM disk in drive A 
  86.           and the OPPM DATA disk in drive B. Type the following commands:
  87.           
  88.                 A:
  89.                 OPPM
  90.           
  91.           After  initialization, the program will warn that data files are 
  92.           missing  from  the  current  drive  and  directory.   Select the

  99.           The  data  files  shipped  with  the program contain sample data 
  100.           which  is  provided to help you become familiar with the various 
  101.           options   and   capabilities   of   the   system.    Prices  and 
  102.           transactions  in  the sample data cover the period from April 1, 
  103.           1990  through  April  28,  1991.   We  suggest  that you use the 
  104.           program  with  the sample data until you become comfortable with 
  105.           it.

  108.      USER's GUIDE
  109.      
  110.           The  user's  guide  for  the  OWL  Personal portfolio manager is 
  111.           built  into  the program and is accessed by selecting the "HELP" 
  112.           option.   In order to get the most benefit from this program, we 
  113.           strongly suggest that you read the user's guide.

  116.      UPGRADING FROM VERSION 3 AND ABOVE
  117.      
  118.           To  use  your  data  from  OPPM Version 3 or above, you may either 
  119.           set the data  directory  to  the  directory  where  your  existing  
  120.           data resides using the "Logged  Dir"  option or you may copy  your 
  121.           existing FOL.DBF, SEC.DBF, PUR.DBF, INC.DBF, AL.DBF and  PRICE.DBF 
  122.           to the new  OPPM  Version 4.1 directory (\OPPM41 for hard disk in-
  123.           stallations).

  126.      SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  127.      
  128.           OPPM  requires  a  minimum  of  640K  of  memory  and a graphics 
  129.           monitor  (CGA, EGA, VGA or Hercules).  If you receive an "OUT OF 
  130.           MEMORY"  message  when  running  OPPM, try removing some of your 
  131.           memory  resident  drivers  and programs from memory.  If you are 
  132.           using  DOS  5.0+ you may be able to load memory resident drivers 
  133.           and programs into high memory.  Consult your DOS manual.
